Horse Drawn Promotions - Breaking horses to harness. www.horsedrawnpromot ions.com This is Flynn, a 5 year old Haflinger gelding that we had in to break to drive. This video shows what he has achieved during his time with us.
You teach him to ... By: pocavistaranch. on 10 Jan 12, 08:05:38 You teach him to stay cool even in dangerous situations.? That is one of the best driving trainings i have seen! Great job!
The answer may be ... By: MrMarkthecoach. on 12 Apr 11, 21:16:43 The answer may be to improve awareness of car drivers? If we remove horses from our towns it would be a sad day for London to lose the Police, Army & Royal horses & the commercial horses such as Harrods. I sent a horse to Mr Hook to be trained and was very reassured with the focus on making the horse safe in all situations something that was completely overlooked by my previous? trainers!! If we drive horses in either town or country we all have a duty to ensure they're safe Keep it up Barry
I was fortunate ... By: MrMarkthecoach. on 12 Apr 11, 21:03:57 I was fortunate enough to have worked with both riding & driving horses in central London in the late 70's and whilst the traffic was obviously not as busy as it is today the many horses from our yard covered 100's of miles between them each year & I don't recall a single traffic accident, a testament to the horses training and the proof of what can be achieved with the correct approach. I agree there are a minority of? inconsiderate drivers but have met these in the country as much as the town
We don't have those ... By: Saartje05. on 12 Apr 11, 09:55:58 We don't have those high hedges like in the UK. I find them rather irritating anyway. Blocks the view constantly. And I'm not attacking the driver, I'm certain he knows? what he's doing. IT's the other people.
I'm not talking ... By: Saartje05. on 12 Apr 11, 09:54:00 I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the traffic. If a horse runs on a country lane, what can happen, it won't give as much damage as driving on a busy road like this. I'm not saying the training isn't good, I see it is, but many car drivers don't give a shit about horses. If a horse spooks, something that can happen to the best trained? horse, as you know well yourself, the results will be devastating. I would never drive my horse in traffic like this.
Also it would be ... By: barryhook2. on 12 Apr 11, 08:55:10 Also it would be interesting to know where you consider is a safe place to drive a horse. On the basis of your statement there would be no horses driven at shows or parades - where there are many people, other horses, agricultural equipment, tents, flags etc. Accidents can happen even while standing in a yard. If we are going to take horses from their wild? state and use them, surely it is better for them to be safe, confident and happy wherever they find themselves.
We find drivers in ... By: barryhook2. on 12 Apr 11, 08:49:07 We find drivers in our area to be very considerate - in our experience country lanes can be just as dangerous as a city centre. Not only? do you have tractors, but often you cannot see hazards approaching due to hedges. There is also barbed wire in fences, banks and ditches, walkers with dogs (that may chase the horse) - the list is endless. Barry has broken thousands of horses in his lifetime and has never experienced any accidents involving drivers.
Where is safe to ... By: barryhook2. on 12 Apr 11, 08:41:19 Where is safe to drive a horse? Accidents can happen anywhere, wherever you drive, even if that is in a field or an arena. For example, if a pheasant flies? up in front of the horse in a field and it shies and panics. In this day and age many people do not have a choice about driving on the roads, so we aim to train horses to be driven safely, confidently and happily wherever they may be driven.
What if it HAD gone ... By: Saartje05. on 12 Apr 11, 07:49:07 What if it HAD gone wrong here? I mean, causing an accident in a place like this? Dead horse, wounded people.? This is NOT a place to drive a horse. No matter how good you are with horses.
Geez, what a? ... By: Saartje05. on 12 Apr 11, 07:46:52 Geez, what a? dangerous place to drive. I understand the haflinger is doing fine, but that's not what's dangerous here, it's the drivers in the cars who don't know how to react. THAT's when you get the accidents. I'd NEVER drive my horse in a place like that, it's far too dangerous. (we have Haflinger horses too)
can you put a video ... By: POOKYBLACK. on 05 Sep 10, 08:54:02 can you put a video on how to put a harness on properly and how to put a horse to cart there,s alot off people that don,t know or do it? inncorectly
Very interesting ... By: hackneysaregreat. on 26 Aug 10, 10:30:29 Very interesting video again, Barry.
I very much have to get used to that left hand drive street view.
In my experience, even the most trusted horse or pony, will surprise you one day, but getting them prepared like this, is certainly the? very best form of "driving insurance" you can get.
