Yes I do a? few things to stop I say whoa, release my leg pressure, sit deep in the saddle and put my legs forward and put weight in the stirrups, lastly I pick up the reins, stop and back a few steps or until my horse is backing straight and willingly with his shoulders up and his hind end down. Then I will release all rein pressure and let him stand. Keep working at it!

Backing after a stop should just help the horse rock back on his hocks if he isn't asked to actually back, he shouldn't. He may just stop and prepare himself to back from your training. This will help him learn to stop using his hocks rather then his forehand. Great for the arena OR the trail. Thanks!

I contacted a lady who was advertising horse riding lessons, I am actually quite scared of horses.. I think they have a bit of a chip on their shoulders about the whole enslavement thing. I didn't take the lessons.. they were too expensive for me, after I left I had to get 4 different buses to get home.. it took me nearly five hours.
