No offense but I ... By: jlvjthela. on 25 Apr 09, 04:25:45 No offense but I have broken in my fair? share of horses and this horse was NOT untouched. That and the work you are doing should NOT be done in one marathon session. Very disappointed and aggravated that you would do this to a horse and market yourself as a trainer. There is a million times more work than what you are showing. Please show it all or none at all.

Its just a whole ... By: mybullycreations. on 09 Aug 11, 17:57:04 Its just a whole other level of training...Great work! If you? have a backyard horse and just trail on him...this technique may not be worth it. All you want to say is whoa and have the horse stop no matter how he uses his body to do so. So if your wanting a smooth stop and one that can leave skid marks in the dirt with his hind legs like reining horses...this is the basic beginning.
When you release... ... By: mybullycreations. on 09 Aug 11, 17:54:09 When you release...the horse stops backing....This is a technique that? all world class trainers use to get them to start using the back and their butts to stop instead of slamming his front feet in the ground, throwing his head up and hollowing his back. If they "think" back when you say whoa, they will think BUTT...this is the part they need to use. A horse wont keep running backwards unless your pulling on his face or keep asking him to.

Wow this different ... By: cuttinhorse101. on 27 Jun 10, 01:03:25 Wow this different with my horse and my trainers whoa means stop. Last I checked whoa means stop not to back up. Easy way to get horse your to stop when you say whoa is to say? "whoa" when stopping, be consistent about it and in no time you will notice that you don't have to pull back as much and eventually a horse will stop by the verbal command

By: XxILoveDollyxX. on 25 Jun 10, 17:26:26 you have a very good point. like, what would happen if the yard was busy, someone walked in the way of your hhorse and you say 'whoa' then your horse goes backwards and squishes or kicks someone. the method is great but the words? should be a liitle different. :)

While it may be a ... By: 4TIMESAYEAR. on 08 Dec 09, 02:00:05 While it may be a good way of teaching a horse to stop, you shouldn't be teaching a horse to back with "whoa" - use "back". For safety's sake "Whoa" should mean "DON'T MOVE" - neither backwards? nor forwards.

Hiya, sorry to butt ... By: nags2bitches. on 29 Jul 09, 08:02:15 Hiya, sorry to butt in but, I have a problem with releasing the rein once the horse is stopped; I'm? english and all our horses are trained to move off as soon as the rein is released, they only stand still if they are 'held' between the rein and leg. Any tips ? Like, should I keep my weight back and legs forward all the time when I'm halted , untill I'm ready to move off or should I look as if I'm relaxed and doing nothing ?
Thanks,? very handy ... By: nags2bitches. on 29 Jul 09, 07:58:17 Thanks,? very handy tip .
I am sorry it took ... By: jdequine. on 23 Jul 09, 20:59:28 I am sorry it took so long for me to respond to you. We were moving our training operation for the last couple of months. Yes I do a few things to stop I say whoa, release my leg pressure, sit deep in the saddle and put my legs forward and put weight in the stirrups, lastly I pick up the reins, stop and back a few steps or until my horse is backing straight and willingly with his shoulders up and his hind? end down. Then I will release all rein pressure and let him stand. Keep working at it!
Thanks for ... By: biffybilliamson. on 12 May 09, 23:03:59 Thanks for responding. I'm trying it with my mare, she's getting it. I? think she likes to hear "Good girl!" I also saw a Julie Goodnight vid that says. Give two warnings for an easier stop. 1st: say woah 2nd: rock back on your seat. 3rd Pull up. Then gradually reduce it to a woah. Could you make a video of that? I really like the way you ride. Thanks. I'll be watching all the Padmavideo's.
Hello, sorry it ... By: jdequine. on 12 May 09, 16:52:25 Hello, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. It shouldn't be a problem on the trail. Backing after a stop should just help the horse rock back on his hocks if he isn't asked to actually back, he shouldn't. He may just stop and prepare himself to back from your training. This will help him learn? to stop using his hocks rather then his forehand. Great for the arena OR the trail. Thanks!
i love how you are ... By: biffybilliamson. on 05 May 09, 01:53:18 i love how you are saying release your reins to reward after stopping. Not a lot of people release or let their horses stand on good or bad terms.
So if you? teach your horses to back up after you stop and you happen to stop on trail with other riders does your horse auto back into other riders when you woah? should we do a different signal when it's a plain woah with no back up and another signal to woah and back?

A few short video clips showing the horse skills of the Gauchos of Argentina. The video clips were shot at Estancia La CinaCina near San Antonio de Areco, about 110 km north of downtown Buenos Aires. I did not have my camcorder with me. So I took these video clips with my tiny Canon PowerShot SD300 still camera!
