It's better for their backs as they go around a hunter course and I think it looks nicer. My horse gets really hot when i sit down in the saddle and it's hard for her to swap leads it just doesn't look? as nice when you have all your weight in the saddle. Very nice ride! My horse looks a lot like yours haha

Lots of hunter/jumper riders use this technique in order to stay light and balanced around the course, also allows for a more consistent picture (not much of a change in body position from the approach to the jumps, to actually going over the jumps).
