Secretariat (March 30, 1970 -- October 4, 1989) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, that in 1973 became the first US Triple Crown champion in twenty-five years, setting new race records in two of the three events in the Series?the Kentucky Derby (1:592?5), and the Belmont Stakes (2:24)?records that still stand today.

Or a Ruffian x Secretariat foal?! That would be something for? sure.

It would've been awesome if Secretariat lived in this time period...Could you imagine if Zenyatta or Rachel Alexandra was bred to him? Two champion's blood running through? the veins of their foal would make one hell of a race horse.

When you start talking all time greats among American horses, names like Man O' War, Citation, Kelso, Native Dancer, and Seattle Slew often come up. Among the European greats it's always Brigadier Gerard, Mill Reef, Nijinsky, Sea Bird, or Dancing Brave. You can argue a few of those had better overall careers than Secretariat did. But no horse on this list, or anywhere else would've? gotten to within 10 lengths of Secretariat in that 73' Belmont. It was God showing off in equine form that day, IMO

Still looking for the video clip where the interviewer asks "do you think Secretariat knows how great he is?" and the horse snapped his head around and looked right into the camera and I swear his eyes said "you're goddam? right I know!" It was the damnest thing I've ever seen.

Awww...Big Red passed away the year before I was born. If he were still around and when I'd finally had grasped my great love for Horses as I do to this day, I'd try to hug? him. But he'd probably yell at me for it. XP RIP Big Red.

The Americans believe that outside the U.S. borders there is a huge expanse of lifeless desert. If an American horse wins in USA, it automatically becomes the best in the world.? Out of your Truman Show, everyone knows:The best jockey of all time is the Italian FRANKIE DETTORI .The best trotter of all time is the Italian "VARENNE". The best horse of all time (gallop) is the Italian "RIBOT". Secretariat is a great horse, but is not sufficient to make a recod of time to be the best. Read Wikipedia

Horses can probably live to that? age. We have an old pony that is in her 30s. If a horse got good care, it's possible that he'd live to his 40s. Sort of like a human who makes it past 100.

I was referring more to Elvis...after he passed away, a lot of people believed Elvis was still? alive. Secretariat had that same greatness about him, so i mean spiritually. It was also just as a nice idea. The average lifespan of a horse is 20-25 years old, above 40 years old is very rare, especially for a race horse. But not impossible. There is a story about a horse in Britain, who became over 60 years old.

Do you think Secretariat is actually alive. When you mean alive do you mean alive physcially or spirtually. Spiritually I agree? with you 110& but physically I wouldn't agree with you to a point because he can't be 41 no horse can live to be age 41. I guess anything is possible though.

I just love those espn-docs and love the legend of Big Red. I'm thankful his life and career is so? well documented, so we still can enjoy. His career, life and just the way he looked is beautiful. In my humble opinion he's bigger than Elvis, and actually i think he is still alive...racing some tracks at midnight. But that's just my opinion... Thank you Partymanners! This is an absolute favorite.
