I am replying to an ... By: wgnwheel1. on 18 Feb 12, 00:14:37 I am replying to an old comment of yours. the correct reason for using a double rigged saddle is because of roping cattle. they stay put better than single cinches. if a saddle is equipped for 2 cinches, use both of them because the saddle is designed that way and sits improperly if using only? 1 cinch.

I never knew that they kick in an arc or straight... hmm... interesting. my friend got right inbetween to horses that hated eachother, (BAD mistake!) and the hot-headed pony lashed out? w/ no warning! sorry, just thought I'd ad that little tidbit. Anyways... So, how was your day? XD

A girth is the ... By: exabrial. on 11 Jan 12, 03:24:13 A girth is the front strap around behind a horses front legs. This term is used in English and Western disciplines. In western it's fairly loose, in english, it's tightened under pressure. A cinch is a rear strap around a horses' belly. It's only used in western disciplines. It's very important to get the pressure? on a cinch right. Too loose and a hoof could get caught. Too tight and the horse will buck.
You can walk behind ... By: exabrial. on 11 Jan 12, 03:22:09 You can walk behind a horse safely if you're paying attention. Side your hand on it's back and watch the horse's hindquarters. The hand helps the horse? know you're there. A horse can only kick in an arc, or straight back... if you see him start to "squat" you know a kick is coming. Only very poor tempered horses will do this, most horses you can walk behind all day and they will just turn and look at you.
Carefull! Try not ... By: TigersUnleashed. on 31 Dec 11, 16:29:50 Carefull! Try not to walk right behind the the horses hindquarters! I don't mean to be a bother, just I had a bad experience with a horse kicking my? best friend in the stomach cause she got too close to the back legs... and aren't cinches and girths the same? because i do both riding western and english, and sometimes i get confused with all the different terms.

some people use ... By: mattybock. on 05 Aug 11, 10:36:26 some people use double girth/cinch strap saddles because they think it is more stable than a single strap. They are especially popular in the rocky mountain area where the ground is uneven and sloping. Most saddles are single cinch. Have a? look at the traditional treeless Spanish vaquero saddles, which are not only versatile (you can thank those guys for the entire US cattle industry) but they're so comfortable for the horse and rider and they look cool too :)
