The purpose of the spur is to REFINE the leg aid. Rather than the entire calf brushing against the horse's leg, the spur provides a way to touch the horse at a SPECIFIC point.? Therefore it provides very refined communication, which is essential at this level to be able to provide a large variety of aids to perform such specific movements.

By: SavvyDebonair. on 11 Feb 11, 11:16:59 When spurs are used correctly they are wonderful and not damaging, also these are blunt spurs, they don't cause pain more of an irritation to cause movement, it's not painful, more annoying. I use them myself, i love them, you can use them to? fine tune, lifting even a couple hairs with them can create forward movement :) though they should not be used forcibly or only as a training device.
