You can always really lean into her shoulder to get her weight off her foot and then pick it up yourself.

You do this by putting more weight in your heels, tucking your tail bone under you and balancing on your three seat bones. I find it helps to feel like you're about to kneel. When you post up, don't kick your feet out--lift yourself with your inner thighs. Hope that helps!

It really helps to use your leg to help hold them up, like I show at the end of the video. Also, make sure you stand to the side of the horse rather than directly behind him, and that will help keep you safe! It? just takes lots and lots of practice. Don't give up!

If you are sure he's not hurting, then you should just practice with a bit, putting it in and taking right back out and giving him a treat. To first get him to take it, you can put your finger in the? gap between his front and back teeth and push on the gum to ask him to open his mouth, then slip the bit in.

Leaning into his shoulder or rump on? that side as you ask him to pick up his hoof can help too.
