He rides great and very calm. I can move him by hand touching his sides or saying back and pulling down on the bridle but not like you. Forget getting him to longe in a circle.
Thanks for the ... By: SwimFlySwim. on 12 Jan 11, 03:25:34 Thanks for the feedback. My horse seems quite quiet, but she has some weak points (don't we all)? She hasn't chosen to fight, but as a kid, I was kicked in the chest by a horse (I'm sure I asked for it), so I'm always leery now of the business end. Again, thank you? for posting. The ground work I've done with her since finding your videos has made a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE in our relationship already!
You always have to ... By: eXHorses. on 11 Jan 11, 18:04:50 You always have to stay aware of the horse's body language and attitude while working with them. You are right - horses have to choose how to respond from pressure. They can either respond positively, in the way that? the handler is asking, or negatively, which would be to resist the pressure or fight it. If you are uncomfortable working with a horse on certain training methods, you might look for a horse trainer in your area that can help you with this process.
I'm so very ... By: SwimFlySwim. on 29 Dec 10, 05:06:01 I'm so very thankful to find these online. Our family has just acquired our first horse, and we have a lot to learn. As a kid, I spent a lot of time around horses, but never learned proper techniques. My question here,? though, is how are you so sure the horse isn't going to kick you when you start asking her to shift her hind end? She has a choice to make, and it seems like you're within striking distance if she were so inclined.

At this level there is no 'formula' to accomplishing? the task, everything is individualized to fit the team. The horse's ears are up, going willingly and eagerly to the jump, which is a great gauge of understanding what you're looking at.

Not all of it may ... By: animalwisperer. on 16 Mar 12, 10:52:22 Not all of it may be totally necessary but its definitely not suffering. Time and time again? I tell people horses will always tell you whether they are going to do something or not. A horse has to somewhat agree to be able to jump, jumps like that at such a fast pace. Shorten reins are expected, and most english horses are taught to hold theit heads in anyway.

I ride a TBxTrakehner right now, but my best friend (who is pretty short) has a sport pony, I have a friend who uses her Appendix, another? friend with a Paint. It depends on how high you're going to go, what temperment you want, and really just the individual horse. :) But if you can find the right one, Arabs (and Half-Arabs) are great for XC. My old one loved it, and he was amazing.

your knowledge on ... By: hannahmottt. on 11 Jan 12, 16:09:58 your knowledge on martingales must be poor then, only a standing martingale would prevent a horse stretching his neck, the rider is using a running martingale, and is called that as the reins run through the martingale. i dont think i have ever? seen anyone go xc this level without a running martingale :)

By: issyroxfox. on 05 Jan 12, 22:11:25 i love crosscountry but not as much as i used to beacause in town at coonabarabran a horse was struggling and he slipped and rolled down the hill and the rider told them not to shoot him and then the horse got back up b and he was perfectly fine but he fell down? again and had a heart attack and died it was really sad
