By: tahnindisguise. on 18 Dec 11, 11:19:59 gradual circling doesn't exactly help if you're in a field ... some horses, especially thoroughbreds, "bar" and just refuse to respond D: i remember, i was riding? an ex - racer in a large open field and someone had been feeding her corn leaves without us knowing, so she went whacko and just would. not. listen. So I pretty much just had to let her run. When I circled her, she just bucked out of it and was threatening to flip over. Not fun D:

It was a two beat gait where the horse springs from it's two back feet to it's two front feet continuously. You can still see it in practice in the Spanish Riding School just before they perform moves such as the courbette or capriole as the horse gathers itself. Perhaps she was trying to achieve this? But to try a full 4? beat gallop in a school is madness, especially on a circle!

Roger galloping in slow motion. Roger is a 17 year old Connemara x pony who i've owned for over 6 years. For those of you asking how fast he gallops we timed him on a 100m stretch - he did it in 8.8 seconds which works out at around 40mph. My friend videoed this on his LG Vision phone which has a slow motion setting.
