Several breeds of cats and dogs fare better once they've been castrated, also because they're more freeroaming than, say, horses, and thus far better capable of getting laid ;) They're less likely to run away, as well, once neutered, which also causes less roadkills >:
But I'm not very fond of geldings, to be honest. They're so, how to say it... childish. =B Their bodies grow but their mind doesn't, so to say. I'd much rather have a true stallion than a gelding.

I guess it's a matter of choice and the purpose/life of the horse. There is some thought that castrating reduces the occurence of certain diseases. I know that our local SPCA's spay/neuter all cats and dogs and they seem to fare pretty well.

This horse was up and running around like nothing had happened about an hour or so later - and fast forward 6 months to today and he is just an absolute sweetheart.

The way he presents himself and the way he moves is incredibly Arabian like. Even the way he holds his tail so upright. I have never see a purebred Quarter Horse like this. Each procedure done for horses is taken with extreme care and caution. There is no worries unless your horse is extremely ill or injured! :)

Seriously, had to unsaddle and groom a gelding last week, god did I dislike the animal. He was still behaving like a colt and simply -impossible-. Castrating cats I can agree on, since irresponsible owners leaving them intact causes that HUGE amount of strays in our country (NL), but with horses? Nah, not necessary. Just train them properly!

It actually makes them MUCH more calmer, and easier to handle. Stallions have their benefits though, with their firey spirit.

Yeah, I agree on that. Several breeds of cats and dogs fare better once they've been castrated, also because they're more freeroaming than, say, horses, and thus far better capable of getting laid ;) They're less likely to run away, as well, once neutered, which also causes less roadkills >: But I'm not very fond of geldings, to be honest. They're so, how to say it... childish. =B Their bodies grow but their mind doesn't, so to say. I'd much rather have a true stallion than a gelding.

I agree that castrating isn't always necessary. My farrier has a couple of very well behaved stallions. I guess it's a matter of choice and the purpose/life of the horse. There is some thought that castrating reduces the occurence of certain diseases. I know that our local SPCA's spay/neuter all cats and dogs and they seem to fare pretty well.

Actually, I've ridden a stallion once. He was simply very well trained, and wouldn't be let near any mares who are in heat ;) Castrating isn't completely necessary if you've got the time to train the horse properly.

I'm not sure as to his level of sedation but he was up and running with his pals a couple of hours later as well. I know that he had to be laying down for the procedure to make it easier on the vet. WE did the same thing to my alpaca the week after and he also was up and running around within hours.

why d was he completly sadeted my horse was only partly sedated HE COULD NOT FEEL ANY PAIN he was in his own little world and he was running with his other palls a few hours later

Generally speaking it's done for health and temperament. Stallions (a male horse that hasn't been gelded) can be somewhat unpredictable not too mention that they will get all of the female horses pregnant on a regular basis..LOL This horse was up and running around like nothing had happened about an hour or so later - and fast forward 6 months to today and he is just an absolute sweetheart.
