In this inspiring outtake from "Supercharge Me!" actress Forbes Riley gives her passionate account of eating raw, organic, natural foods and its connection to "The Truth." References to spirituality, "The Matrix" and the Industrial Revolution.
Jenna - you are so ... By: forbesriley. on 18 Oct 09, 16:27:02 Jenna - you are so right -- and interesting about the words hoity toity organic -- just read an article -- there is not necessarily more nutrients in organi -- just NO pesticides -- we have got to ban together to stop our food from kiliin gus -- everyday I am finding out about a friend of mine (mostly young) who have cancer! Haven't we just had enough - want cheap -- grow you own food!! WE do every year from seeds -- costly pennies and its organic - EAT TO LIVE!!
As demand goes up, ... By: SuperchargeMe. on 02 Oct 09, 14:22:35 As demand goes up, prices come down. Since so many people are demanding organic now, it's become much more accessible. You can even get organic in many super Wal-Mart stores. Or you could grow your own food. Even if it's just sprouts on your kitchen counter.
She makes good ... By: da1073. on 28 Sep 09, 19:40:45 She makes good point, but organics foods are waaaay overpriced. It is not the creators of junk who overprice things, but they make more money because most of us cannot afford the hoity toity organic stuff she promotes. If the organic crowd wants us to eat healthy, they should encourage the organic producers to drop the prices. Only a few wealthy whites can seem to afford this stuff. I would love to eat organic food, but I cant go bankrupt in the process.

There was a bit of confusion about where I stood on the decision about surgery. Sorry about that! I'm still (obviously) pro-surgery, but I have ALWAYS felt that it should be a very last resort decision. This video explains that a bit more, and shows my (step-daughter?) Brittany at the end, and her take on our new healthy way of eating! :)

Susan Powter ... By: tejo29se. on 31 Jul 09, 20:31:02 Susan Powter started an avalance (in a good way) when I read her first books. I don't have politics of stupid (I have 2 order it and maybe wait a long time because I live in Denmark) but it sounds like a great eye opener.
I read "stop the insanity" and that was the eye opener 4 me. 10 yrs later I am now a vegetarian.
It's actually Bjørn Lomborg who made me "JUMP" in2 vegetarianism. I have only been 2 1 of his lectures about his book "cool it". I absolutely adore him. He's the greatest.
I think you missed ... By: divataunia. on 30 Jun 09, 13:54:27 I think you missed my point here. I think not too. I had surgery because it was my last option. HOWEVER, I struggle (and so do many others) with the behaviors and choices now that I'm over a year out and able to eat more regularly. If I had started reading this book earlier, I would have fed my body the nutrients it so desperately needed, and I'd be well on my way to eating and thinking in a much healthier way right now. The book says what we ALL need to hear - surgery or not. :)
But the really ... By: kdoornink. on 30 Jun 09, 06:20:50 But the really important question is: would you have been able to lose your weight with this book? I really think not.
YAY! I'm so glad ... By: divataunia. on 29 Jun 09, 15:36:32 YAY! I'm so glad she's having a positive influence on you. I heart her! It's all common sense, but sometimes you just need someone to say it loud and clear for you to remind you to be better to yourself. I tend to start each morning by reading/watching something of hers and it makes a huge difference in the choices and behaviors throughout my day. Best wishes to you!

My lifestyle is obviously not working for me, so I'm gonna try and change it. I figured I'd stil go through with ym WLS consultation and testing but try and lose some weight in the mean time cause they're going to require that any way. We'll see how I look and feel in a few months when I get an actual surgery date. Thanks for recommending the book, Taunia!

What a great video! ... By: katiejuly. on 16 Jun 09, 13:32:43 What a great video! I totally agree with what you're saying here. I'm so appreciative of my surgery, but it doesn't do much to change our habits in terms of WHOLE foods and real nutrition. I think changing those habits takes tons of time and effort. I'll pick up the book and give it a read. Also, Brittney is so cute!

I TOTALLY agree that is totally better to eat the whole foods without all of the "crap" that a lot of the foods have added. It's honestly just not needed and not good for our bodies. Our bodies weren't created to process all of the chemicals. I am definitely pro surgery as it has helped/is helping me to be healthy ,but it's important to know with what we are fueling ourselves :)

There are things that Susan says that I disagree with (obviously, the whole WLS topic!), but I *am* very motivated by her straight talk and information. I have already started to see and feel the changes in my body, my energy, and my life by swapping out the old bad habits, taking out all-protein, and switching to a well-balance, whole food approach. . I'll definitely post more on that, and thank you for your comments!

While I can ( ... By: divataunia. on 14 Jun 09, 22:02:01 While I can (obviously) relate to weight being tied to medical issues, I can also attest that after losing 170 lbs and recently completely changing the fuel that I feed my body (whole and nutritious foods), it absolutely DOES make a difference. That's not to say that you shouldn't be treated accurately for your conditions, because it can't be brushed off simply as weight either. I'd be curious what you're doing nutritionally to change your conditions if you wanted to talk privately. :)
I'm a little ... By: divataunia. on 14 Jun 09, 21:58:32 I'm a little confused, because I think you're addressing two different issues here: "therapy or pyschological" and medical issues due to weight. I guess I'm just not sure what part of what Susan is saying is offensive?
To me, I think responsible mental health care HAS to include nutrition. Your brain is not disconnected from your body, and what we feed it directly affects how it operates.
(continued in my next response)
That whole " ... By: strongisfighting. on 14 Jun 09, 19:39:59 That whole "ologists" thing bothered me because it hit a nerve. I am sick of having all my medical issues written off because I am overweight. It seems like doctors just tell me that I need to loose weight and then all my problems will go away. In fact, one of the major reasons why I want to loose weight is so that I can finally get a doctor to actually treat my illness rather than lecture me about being fat. Sorry, but I think Powter is WAY off base on that one and find it offensive.
I found a book that ... By: wisetara. on 14 Jun 09, 05:32:18 I found a book that I've found to be amazing. There's physical stuff in there about losing weight, but it's more about...well, it's hard to explain. But let's just say that I understand more about being fat and getting to "not fat" by reading a book called The Gabriel Method. Just an amazing book. I like hearing about other books that inspire others. The Gabriel Method is the first "fat" book that has really made sense to me. And even if his philosophy is wrong, it's still good stuff. It's good.
